Netflix pairs a Christmas film with Boizel Champagnes

hile French television magazine Telerama describes it as a “Christmas movie that lacks sparkle”, the Netflix fiction ‘Champagne Problems’ also failed to find favour with contributors to Sens Critique. The review platform criticised the number of “typically French clichés” and awarded it the unenviable highest rating of 4/10.

Despite this, the film is proving extremely popular on the streaming platform. Just a week after it was released, it already ranked first for viewings in 49 countries. Two weeks after launch, on December 2, it continued to rank second worldwide with 14.4 million views, while topping the French Top 10 after two weeks in the national rankings. It was just pipped to the post by the sci-fi blockbuster Troll 2.

Consequently, French newspaper Le Parisien claims the romantic comedy is enjoying “superb exposure” and is likely to boost tourism in the Marne, as tourist information officials were quick to point out. For Champagne Boizel this is probably the most significant outcome. In a press statement, the company said it “was delighted to welcome part of the film shoot” in its premises on the Avenue de Champagne in Epernay. Boizel highlights “the scenes filmed in its cellars listed as Unesco World Heritage and its iconic courtyard” that support its wine tourism activities, including “guided tours of its historic cellars, tastings of its emblematic labels and immersive experiences focusing on Champagne”, concludes the statement.
