ean-Nicolas Méo helms the family-owned Domaine Méo-Camuzet in Vosne-Romanée, “in the heart of Burgundy’s most prestigious climats”. He knows only too well how difficult, and expensive, it is to find additional acreage in that area. In fact, that’s why he established a negociant business in 2000. Now, though, he and his family can celebrate their acquisition of 3.4 hectares of extra vines in Volnay and Pommard, adding nearly 20% of bearing vineyards to their existing 18 hectares.

The new acquisitions represent a major development for the estate and illustrate our determination to establish ourselves in the Côte de Beaune and build up a range of wines complementing the Cortons we already own”, he explains in a statement. The cost of the purchase has not been disclosed but the vines previously belonged to a single owner with no children interested in taking over the business.

In Volnay, the purchase involves Premier Cru Les Mitans vines along with Village-classified blocks (Grands Poisots, Grand Champs, Gigotte, Famines, Cros Martin, Lurets…). In Pommard, the parcels are also Village-classified (Cras, Rue au Port, Poisot, Vaumurien, Combotte, La Vache…). The original 18 hectares belonging to Domaine Méo-Camuzet are operated by the winery itself and include the Grands Crus Clos de Vougeot (near the chateau in the upper part of the clos), Richebourg, Echezeaux (Rouges du Bas) and “Cortons (Clos Rognet, Perrières, La Vigne au Saint) in Ladoix Serrigny and Aloxe-Corton, which up until then were the winery’s only foray into the Côte de Beaune”, adds the statement.
