Qanopée, a “great project” aimed at “creating the vineyards of the future”

n Friday June 20, the atmosphere was buzzing at the official opening of the Qanopée Association’s greenhouse in Oger, in the Marne area of Champagne. Qanopée groups together the Beaujolais, Burgundy, Champagne and Jura wine marketing boards whose intention is to create a production unit designed for preserving and pre-propagating scions and rootstock. “The planning and work towards creating this insect-proof bioclimatic glasshouse took us ten years”, stressed Thiébault Huber, chairman of the Qanopée Association who also chairs the federation of Burgundy appellations (CAVB). The first vines were delivered to the glasshouse in March 2025.
Currently, Qanopée features a 4,500m2 bioclimatic glasshouse to promote optimal vine health. The structure is divided into several compartments designed to produce rootstock and foundational scions for vineyards affiliated with the four marketing boards. It will also serve to protect biodiversity material from the regional conservation centres of the founding members and also to roll out R&D projects. In the medium term, the facilities will be extended to include a glasshouse dedicated specifically to plant production.
The total cost of the project is approaching 10 million euros. Qanopée, initially founded by the Burgundy, Beaujolais and Champagne wine marketing boards, has also brought the Jura wine region on board its technical committee and plans to welcome it as an associate member. This opportunity will also be extended to other wine regions in the future.
