ission accomplished for Verallia France and Telmont Champagne who announce that after four years of trials they have successfully reduced the weight of a 75cl bottle of Champagne to 800 grams. This equates to a 4% drop in carbon footprint at production level, compared with the model weighing 835 grams previously adopted by the Champagne wine marketing board (CIVC). The Ecova 2 Champagne bottle has been released in green glass and will be gradually available in other colours. “Concurrently with this, we will launch lighter half-bottles, dropping from 500 to 460 grams, offering an 8% saving in CO2 emissions”, say staff at Verallia who are also working on a magnum version.
