€100,000 for the Wettolsheim wine centre in Alsace

he Wettolsheim wine centre has been closed to the public for two years but is about to get a make-over. It is the recipient of the top award for heritage and local tourism organised by the Heritage Foundation with support from the rental accommodation platform Airbnb, which comes with €100,000 in prize money. The money will be used to fund a quarter of the work planned, including restoration of the damaged roof, part of the wooden section damaged by water and insects, and doors and windows. The influx of tourists had also deteriorated the stone steps.
Rescued from demolition in 1994 and moved to the Alsace Eco-Museum in Ungersheim, the wine centre was built in 1706 by a team of travelling carpenters. It encapsulates the economic and social changes within the Alsace wine region and provides a testament to winegrowing traditions.
