Jaillance launches a semi-sparkling wine on tap

ast summer, Rhone Valley cooperative winery Jaillance tested a sweet, fruity alternative to beer at fun fairs in its home region of Die. Bulles de Break by Maison Jaillance is a semi-sparkling wine that could easily be mistaken for its Clairette de Die sparkling wines. It is made from the same grape varieties (Muscat and Clairette), that come from the same source (supplied by the co-operative’s member growers) and are fermented using the same winemaking techniques with no added yeast or sugar at bottling. The fruity aromas are the same too, as is the alcohol content (8% ABV). The packaging however is different and it has an impact on the wine’s effervescence. Designed to be served on tap, at the bar of a pub or a festival, Bulles de Break is packaged in 20-litre kegs where the pressure is lower than in bottles. Unlike Clairette de Die, which is classified as a sparkling wine, Bulles de Break is therefore ranked as semi-sparkling.
“Its defining feature is more about the way it is drunk than its flavour”, stresses Jaillance’s marketing and communication’s officer Géraldine Derycke. “Bulles de Break is more on-the-go and suited to different drinking patterns and occasions”.
