They may support the Nantes Football Club but that’s not all. ‘Canaris’ supporters also show concern for their home region. Last year, members of the Brigade Loire supporters’ group successfully raised around €20,000 for Nantes hospital. This spring, when association members learned about the damage caused by frost across the vineyards of Nantes, they wanted to play their part.

They were looking for a winegrower to help and they chose me because one of my friends belongs to this group of supporters”, says Romain Héraud, a winegrower with a 20-hectare vineyard in Clisson, who partnered with his parents Myriam and Patrice in September 2019 at Château le Vallon des Perrières.

Their help was as simple as it was effective. They asked Héraud to choose a wine which they then marketed via their network. “I chose a 2020 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur lie which I bottled. They did the rest”. First they designed and had a special label made. Then they released the wine for sale on their website at €7 per bottle or €36 for a case of 6. In under a fortnight, the 1,750 bottles had already sold out.
