‘Source 2020’ labelled AOC Luberon and signed Ridley Scott is the first wine to be produced in the brand new winery at Mas des Infermières, which boasts 20 hectares of vines in Oppède-le-Vieux.
The highly acclaimed director of such blockbusters as 1492, Thelma and Louise, Alien and Blade Runner designed his own label for this blend of Grenache and Syrah which is currently being released in French and European wine merchants and hospitality outlets with a consumer price tag of 15 euros. Work on the new 2,200 m2 winery was completed just in time for the 2020 harvest and will provide the successful American producer with his own winemaking facilities (1,000 hl of stainless steel vats and a similar capacity of concrete tanks) and ageing facilities (300 hl of oak barrels). After producing 650 hectolitres of red and rosé wines in 2020, Mas des Infermières can now produce 2,500 hl of wine. The estate still has land left to plant and intends to buy new vineyards to expand in the near future.
Its first red wine is due to be marketed next April to coincide with the official opening of its cellar door facilities and the first bookings for its three renovated gîtes. Once open to the public, visitors will be able to discover memories of Ridley Scott's filming across the vineyards of Provence. Scott has recruited the help of a dedicated technical team to produce his wines and has insisted that particular attention be paid to the protection of bees. Mas des Infermières has therefore been endorsed as Bee Friendly, along with its High Environmental Value (HVE) certification.
