For PDO and PGI wines, “given the impossibility of carrying out some of the checks, products can be awarded an Official Sign of Quality and Origin provided firms are accredited and every aspect of specifications, including the obligation to declare, are complied with”, said INAO.For PDO and PGI wines, “given the impossibility of carrying out some of the checks, products can be awarded an Official Sign of Quality and Origin provided firms are accredited and every aspect of specifications, including the obligation to declare, are complied with”, said INAO. - Photo credit : DR

Singling out the issue for organic Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)-labelled products, France’s institute for official quality signs (INAO) has explained online that, generally speaking, “all checks requiring a field trip or gathering of people are suspended. Only remote documentary checks have been maintained. This suspension is applicable until government measures allow the resumption of on-site checks”.

Until the coronavirus epidemic ends and lockdown is lifted, PDO and PGI wines are subject to documentary checks for approval: “On-site inspections will be carried out as soon as government measures allow and the decision to maintain approvals will be assessed accordingly”, announced INAO.
