If you can’t beat them join them. As Pernod Ricard’s subsidiary company battles against Hennessy (LVMH group) to extend the finishing process within the Cognac appellation (in order to include its Blue Swift spirits), it has just released an XXO Cognac using the new age account promoted by none other than Hennessy itself, after a series of administrative and legal disputes.

New category

Unveiled on September 11 in Paris, Martell Chanteloup XXO “represents a major milestone for Martell, the oldest of the major Cognac houses and world leader in prestige Cognacs, [...] as [the label] enters a completely new category”, the company said in a press statement.

390 euros

To produce XXO, brandies have to be matured for fourteen years or more, and the Chanteloup XXO blend is based on 450 mature brandies. Released for sale at the end of the year, it has a recommended retail price of 390 euros.
