The Rhone shipping firm Vignobles & Compagnie (formerly Compagnie rhodanienne) has announced that it is launching two new organic ranges for the off-trade (super/hypermarkets, wine merchants, convenience stores, etc.) in France and export markets. Its aim is “To respond to strong demand from our distributors to support them in developing their organic wine assortments”, says company director Thomas Giubbi. Another suggested explanation is the firm’s difficulty in sourcing from its long-standing partner estates, which suffered from adverse weather in 2018. “We wanted to consolidate our organic wine range”, continues Giubbi.

The first range launched is called “Nos Origines”. It includes three 2018 vintage varietal PGI Pays d'Oc wines: a Grenache for the rosé, a Cabernet-Sauvignon for the red and a Chardonnay for the white. The wines are already on sale in the company’s shop with a price tag of €7 including VAT per bottle. “We want the range to simplify our proposition and target young consumers”, says Giubbi. It is also a category that generally fares better than others in super and hypermarkets.

The second collection is an organic Côtes-du-Rhône called “Pure évidence”, available in white and red. “We chose this appellation because it has the highest numeric distribution in-store and it also generates the largest volumes”, explains Giubbi. The bottles sell for €9 including VAT in the shop.
