Vinexpo Shanghai, which is due to run from October 23 to 25, is shaping up well for Rodolphe Lameyse, Vinexpo’s new managing director.

Despite being held near the three other trade events for wine in the region, including Prowine China from November 12 to 14 in Shanghai, Vinexpo Shanghai's occupancy rate has reached 87%, with confirmed attendance by major international brands, including Michel Chapoutier, E&J Gallo, China Great Wall Wine and Concha Y Toro. So much so that increasing the exhibition area and number of exhibitors has even been debated.

Despite the decline in Chinese wine imports, “we are almost full. That’s pretty positive as you shouldn't exit the Chinese market when the going gets tough. Quite the opposite, otherwise you may never be able to come back”, stressed Rodolphe Lameyse, who believes that given the size of the Asian continent, companies need to attend several exhibitions. “It is important to understand that there are different business hubs in Asia. Hong Kong allows you to work in South-East Asia and Shanghai part of mainland China... China is huge, we could have a show in every third tier city!” joked Rodolphe Lameyse, who claims that he does not have plans, at least not right now, to create new exhibitions, but confirms his willingness to go beyond his comfort zone and explore new opportunities.
