From the seven kingdoms of the television series Game of Thrones to the seven vineyard sites of Bergerac and Duras, the connection was too good for the Perigord wine marketing departments to pass up on. After the weekly broadcast of the new episodes of Season 8 of Game of Thrones (overnight from Sunday to Monday in the United States), the Bergerac and Duras wine marketing board broadcasts its own series on Facebook and Youtube - Game of Terroirs, with one video every Monday. After the first episodes on the specific features of Duras, Montravel and Saussignac, future episodes with focus on the Bergerac, Monbazillac, Montravel, Pécharmant and Rosette appellations.

Wine is coming

The mini-series “attracts the attention of a new audience, with a novel catchphrase that meets the need to communicate differently about the world of wine” explains Marie Lecourt, the marketing board’s communication and strategic marketing manager. She stresses that the project has the added benefit of involving the winegrowers: both in the shooting*, but also in the scenario of each video. “Producers take part in marketing their vineyards, by choosing the tone and topics”, says Lecourt. Although she doesn’t yet have the hindsight to gauge the success of the marketing plan, she is satisfied that all the feedback has been positive and that the winegrowers are taking ownership of the campaign.

* Shooting began in July 2018 and is still in progress for the last episode, in Monbazillac.
