Designated 2019 European Wine City, Perpignan, located in the heart of the Roussillon wine region in the South of France, has just presented its programme of festivities. Several events will set the tempo, starting with the Grenaches du Monde competition on 17 and 18 April. The competition will end with the Grenaches du Monde gala evening event, which is open to the public and where enthusiasts can taste the 900 entries in the competition and enjoy a gourmet set menu, for €63. 400 tickets are on sale.

June 9 sees Tast'in Perpignan: a gourmet stroll through the city, with six stops. At each venue, ten winegrowers will present ten wines and the public will be able to enjoy dishes prepared by five Michelin-starred chefs.

Reconnecting with the city

Every Thursday from mid-July to mid-August, winegrowers will organise tastings at the “Jeudis de Perpignan”, the city's cultural summer event during which concerts, shows and parades are held.

French-style pub crawl

“Pub-surfing” is one of the more novel events planned for October or November. The aim will be to encourage people from Perpignan to go to several bars over an evening and enjoy cocktails made with Rivesaltes or Muscat de Rivesaltes. At the end of their journey, they will have to select the best cocktail.

In addition to events targeting the general public, the wine marketing board is also welcoming opinion leaders. For the first time this year, it will receive a group of Masters of Wine and sommelier educators to introduce them to the rich array of wines from Roussillon.
