Vinexpo heads at full pelt for the premium end of the market

We repeat and stress that Vinexpo Bordeaux is the cornerstone of the Vinexpo group. We are going to grow and stay”, said Patrick Seguin, chairman of the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and Industry and of the management board of Vinexpo. He dismissed rumours of the exhibition ending in Bordeaux by announcing a multi-year commitment from Vinexpo until 2023 with Congrès et Exposition Bordeaux which manages the Bordeaux exhibition centre.

Rumours of a cancellation of the first Vinexpo Paris exhibition have also been ruled out: marketing of the 7,500 square metres of stand space at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre has been launched and the event is due to take place from 13 to 15 January 2020. The distinguishing feature of Vinexpo Paris' positioning, which is intended to complement and not compete with the Bordeaux event (from 13 to 16 May 2019), is “its primary focus on spirits, and more generally on the bar world”, explained Matthieu Vanhalst, Vinexpo's sales director.

Torpedoing the competition

Questioned about competition from Prowein, Patrick Seguin commented: “We don't consider ourselves in a frontal confrontation with Prowein. We don't have the same proposition and we are deliberately targeting the premium end of the market and permanent media”. Christophe Navarre, chairman of the supervisory board of Vinexpo added: “With a firm rooting in Bordeaux, which is synonymous with wine, Vinexpo has a small lead over the competition in terms of reputation”.
