After the Haute-Provence area, the Luberon, the Massif des Bauges, the Chablais, the Monts d'Ardèche and the Causses du Quercy, it is now Beaujolais’ turn to be certified by UNESCO as a Geopark, in recognition of a region with a “significant geological heritage”. The certification also recognises “a regional project focused on the protection and enhancement of geo heritage”. “We are very proud to have been able to contribute to obtaining this certification thanks in particular to the study of viticultural soils carried out over more than 8 years. With more than 15,300 surveys and nearly 1,000 pits dug in our vineyards, this is the most accurate wine-region-scale terroir study in the world”, said InterBeaujolais chairman Dominique Piron in a press release.
