December 29 decree published on January 4 in the Official Journal marks a new chapter in the history of the Crus Bourgeois du Médoc. Their classification now comprises three categories: Cru Bourgeois, Cru Bourgeois Supérieur and Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. It will be applicable starting with the 2018 vintage and its publication is slated for 2020 for a five-year period. Applications can be forwarded between March 1 and September 30, 2018.

The classification complies with several important principles: blind tasting of the wines, an independent panel of judges (supervised by an inspection body), promotion of the positive points of each chateau, respect for the environment and checks throughout the duration of the classification.
