Maison Chapoutier has announced that it has added another property to its wine portfolio, Domaine Saint-Etienne located in Montfrin, in the Gard area of southern France. The property was bought last August and covers 25 hectares of vines farmed organically and biodynamically in two appellation areas: 9 ha in Costières de Nîmes and the rest in the regional and village Côtes du Rhône areas. Most of the wines produced are red.

Part of the range continued

The purchase is part of the negociant’s “ongoing strategy aimed at promoting terroir expression and appellations in the Rhone Valley”, says a press statement. The company also claims it wants to retain the estate’s “own identity” and continue part of the existing range, namely a red and white Côtes du Rhône, a red Côtes du Rhône Villages and a Costières de Nîmes.

The first wines following the purchase are due to be released at the start of 2018. The property’s previous owner, Michel Coullomb, bought it in 1988.
