Next Autumn, rugby player Rémi Lamerat will not only go back to training with ASM Clermont Auvergne but he will also go back to school to start having correspondence courses as part of a viti-oeno BTS (equivalent of the HND). At only 27 years old, the young centre anticipates the end of his career revealing simplicity and maturity that command respect: “I hope my career will last as long as possible but we never choose when we have to stop”. Inspired by Christopher Poulain’s career change (US Dax former prop), who became winemaker at Lalande-de-Pomerol after an accident, Rémi Lamerat is ready for -at least- a four-years arranged curriculum. This shows, one more time, that despite the increasing exposure of rugby, it is still way far from soccer.

This atypical approach is supported by the wine-merchant Bertrand Ravache, CEO of the eponym estate (former Malet Roquefort), who invited him on its stand at VINEXPO2017.Born in Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, Rémi Lamerat learned rugby within the local club managed, among others, by Bertrand Ravache. This partnership between Bertand Ravache and Rémi Lamerat seems to be more about education than advertising, and highlights common values as team spirit; conviviality; and also, a taste for the South-West culture. The rugby player will act in a short series of three videos showing himself discovering the technicity of Bordeaux wines. “His questions will enable to desacralize our wine tastings”, explains Maria Deval, marketing director of the brand.
