En Primeur: 65,000 glasses requisitioned in Bordeaux in 2016

Sunday April 30 2017 by Vitisphere

Bordeaux welcomed thousands of wine industry members from around the world from April 3 to 7 to taste its top chateau wines en primeur. The wines, which were grown in 2016, are still maturing and will not be released until spring 2018. They go on sale as futures, however, over the next few weeks. The event’s major supplier, Austrian glass manufacturer Riedel, estimates that 65,000 glasses were served during en primeur week. Involved in 35 vintage presentations, including four before the actual week, Riedel partners with the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux which oversees most of the en primeur tastings and used 35,000 glasses.

However impressive the figures may seem, this is just a taster of more to come for Riedel – 150,000 glasses will be used during this year’s Vinexpo from June 18 to 21, 2017 in Bordeaux.
