Hospices de Beaune: 8.4 million euros raised at auction in 2016

Film director Claude Lelouch, actresses Virginie Ledoyen – patron of the Coeur et Recherche association – and Valérie Bonneton, along with Georgian pianist Khatia Buniastisvili, were the patrons of the 156th Hospices de Beaune auction this year. Before the auction got underway, a minute’s silence was held to remember Antoine Jacquet, the managing director of the Hospices Civils de Beaune who passed away recently.

The “presidents’” barrel, which is always the high point of the Hospices de Beaune auction by Christie’s with buyers from around the world in attendance, was bought by a Chinese client, in partnership with Beaune’s four-star luxury hotel Le Cep. Its 200,000-euro proceeds will go to two associations, the Coeur et Recherche foundation and cancer research organisation ARC. In 2015, a barrel of Corton Renardes Grand Cru was auctioned for 480,000 euros with proceeds going to victims of the Paris terrorist attacks.
