Pessac-Léognan does a good deed by organising a charity gala

Dubbed ‘L’Instant Pessac-Léognan’, the benevolent gala dinner held by the Pessac-Léognan growers’ organisation will be held on September 22 in the gardens and reception rooms of Bordeaux city hall. Aiming for 200 to 250 attendees, the organisation is hoping to fetch €10,000 for the Medical Research Foundation. By renewing the fund-raising target for its maiden event at the new Bordeaux stadium in May 2015, the organisation – chaired by Laurent Cogombles and run by Catherine Barbier-Lalève – is hoping to better last year’s final figure of €5,000 donated by the 230 guests.

Although the final format for the event has yet to be decided, it is intended to become an annual fixture. Its avowed aim is to strengthen the ties between the city of Bordeaux and its closest vineyard. Targeting both industry members – property owners, brokers, distributors and negociants – and wine lovers, the gala asks for a “€150 contribution for the dinner and a mandatory donation of €50 for the Medical Research Foundation”, points out the organisation. The sixty or so chateaux in the Pessac-Léognan appellation will provide the wine for the dinner, orchestrated by chefs Cédric Bechade of the Auberge Basque in Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle and Fabrice Idiart of the La Réserve restaurant in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
