If, over the summer holidays, you get a chance to transit via the Finnish capital, make sure you stop off at the airport wine bar. In 2016, Wine & View, Helsinki airport’s wine bar was awarded the Airport Wine Bar of the Year award. Attributed by the Food and Beverage Excellence Awards (or FAB), the accolade was bestowed on an historic bar that now boasts a state-of-the-art counter. Its wine by the glass selection, which is changed daily, is unusual in that it is based on the 1,000 Finest Wines Ever Made guide published by the European Fine Wines magazine. The wine list ranges from €39 for a bottle of Argentinean Malbec by Bodega Alamos to €563 for a bottle of Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blanc 1999 vintage. The price tag soars even higher if you choose to drink it with some Finnish caviar.

If you don’t get a chance to visit Wine & View this summer, the other FAB finalists may be of interest to you: Dubl Lounge di Feudi di San Gregorio in Naples airport; Vinifera in Toronto; Halo in London Stansted; and Vino Volo in Los Angeles. And in 2014, the previous winner was Surdyk’s Flights in Minneapolis.
