Rhone wine centre: The Avignon Carré du Palais postponed until 2017

Michel Chapoutier, chairman of the Rhone Valley wine marketing board, has decided to postpone once again opening of the Carré du Palais until April 2017. Scheduled initially for summer 2015, then postponed until April 2016 and finally June of this year, the Rhone Valley appellation wines’ tourism centre, Carré du Palais, will now not open until April 2017. The announcement was made by Michel Chapoutier during a press conference on March 24 in Avignon. “We had to postpone the official opening date because June was too early for us to be totally ready for the summer season”, was his justification for the date change. “We needed more time”.

April 2017 was thus chosen because it coincides with the Découvertes en Vallée du Rhône event when large numbers of French and foreign buyers travel to the wine region. Opening in the spring will give staff a “warm-up” for several weeks before “the summer sprint”, added Michel Chapoutier
