Europe: The prospect of a simplification of distance selling rules

The French independent wine growers’ federation has welcomed publication of a European study titled “Evaluation of current arrangements for the cross border movements of excise goods that have been released for consumption”. The study addresses the issue of distance selling of wine and contemplates the implementation of a one-stop-shop system. “The system would help reduce the administrative costs linked to corporate tax obligations and would end the need to have a tax representative in the recipient member state”, explained the federation. The proposal is similar to the solution advocated by the organisation for several years. Although federation chairman Thomas Montagne said he was satisfied at this step forward, he warned that “the creation of this new system must now remain a priority on the European agenda”.
