Guillaume Deglise: 2015 'is the first time a French head of State will attend Vinexpo'
L

iterally hours before Vinexpo opens, managing director Guillaume Deglise is true to form, displaying unabashed optimism and commitment to the show. Initial estimates intimate that attendance figures will be on a par with 2013, or higher.

What kind of mood are you in just days before your first Vinexpo opens?
We are ready. Outfitting has started and 5,000 people are working at the showground. It’s a huge and extremely impressive feat. I hadn’t imagined there would be so many people. The dining area, in particular, is absolutely beautiful. We can’t wait to be there!

What do you think about François Hollande attending the show?
It’s not a surprise for us because we invited him several months ago. We knew he might be interested in travelling to Bordeaux. We are delighted to welcome him, especially as it’s the first time a French head of State will attend Vinexpo. It will really turn the spotlight on the event and is a very positive signal for the wine industry. He will have an opportunity to air his views in a speech, before officially opening the show. He is due to meet some trade representatives beforehand.

The United States are guest of honour this year. What are the main trends in terms of attendance at the 2015 show?
The number of attendees changes every minute. Broadly speaking, attendance figures seem to be very similar to 2013. French visitors are the primary attendance group, followed by China in second place and the United States in third.

Can you tell us briefly how the one-to-one meetings – one of the main new features for 2015 – have panned out?
It is too early to tell whether the targeted meetings service has been successful. We don’t know whether they will generate real business. However, we do know that the service has been very popular because 200 exhibitors and 500 visitors have taken part.
