Languedoc: Silène de Peyrals enters Jean-Claude Mas stable

Domaines Paul Mas have announced they have acquired Silène de Peyrals, a property previously owned by the Skalli family. Located in Saint-Pons-de-Mauchiens, in the heart of the Languedoc Grés de Montpellier appellation area, Jean-Claude Mas said he was attracted to the estate because of its “terroir and the location’s unique character.” There were also more pragmatic motives, namely the estate’s “proximity to Château Paul Mas and the need to increase our acreage in the Grés de Montpellier area.” The company intends to aim for excellence with its new estate, along the same lines as the Luxe Rural signature for Domaine Paul Mas. “We intend to produce a high-end Languedoc wine with a 10,000-bottle blend signed by myself and the famous Italian wine maker and my mentor, Giorgio Grai,” said Jean-Claude Mas. Silène de Peyrals will also play a part in the development of the Château Paul Mas Grés de Montpellier blend and will be included in the company’s range of wine tourism activities with poney and quad rides.

The acquisition is the first stage of Jean-Claude Mas’ external growth strategy for 2015; he also plans to buy approximately 200 hectares in Aude and Hérault.
