Ampelography : Pierre Galet receives the medal of Agricultural Merit

Friday June 21 2013 by Vitisphere

In half a century of career, Pierre Galet listed over 9 600 different species of grape varieties all over the world. Known by students' generations in vine growing for his handbooks of ampelography, professor Pierre Galet just received the commander's title of the Order of the Agricultural Merit. Always modest, he returned on the limits of the ampelography because if " vine is the first textile used by man, remember Adam and Eve, we do not know which vine it was! "
The Interprofessional Council of Wines of Savoy welcomed on its Vinexpo stand, the ceremony. The mayor of Bordeaux, Alain Juppé, gave his cross to Pierre Galet, greeting his career and his integrity, Pierre Galet having avoided the STO (COMPULSORY WORK SERVICE) during the Second World War, taking refuge with the School of Agronomy of Montpellier of which it was one of youngest graduates.
