n 2012, the global Japanese wine consumption increased by 18%. "Mainly because of the development of wine consumptionat home" according to UbiFrance Tokyo office. Japan is the sixth largest value market for French wines, between China and Switzerland.

The growth rate of Japanese consumption of French wines is particularly high. Last year, Japan imported 717,000 hectoliters of French wines, for a turnover of 480 million euros (respectively 22% and 26% in value).
