ccording to the UbiFrance Budapest bureau, the Hungarian market is currently on the hunt for 0.5 million hl of wine. In 2012, Hungary became the fifteenth largest wine producer country in the world, whilst in 2011 it was in twelfth place. This vintage year, Hungary has experienced a poor harvest : 1.87 million hl (-32% in relation to 2011 according to the OIV – International Organisation of Vine and Wine).

The wines most sought after by Hungarian importers will be European, notably Italian table wines. In 2011, bottled wine imports reached 515 000 hectolitres according to the National Council of Hungarian Wine Communities.
