Grand Distribution : record sales for the Cabernets and Rosés of Anjou

n 2012, the production of rosés in the Loire will likely diminish by 30 %. Fanny Gillet (head of economic services at InterLoire) predicts that “a rise in prices is foreseeable with volumes under threat. The consumption of soft Rosés is clearly increasing. While the stocks situation was weighing on prices during the 2011-2012 campaign, that will not be the case for this campaign.”

From 21st May to 12th August 2012, sales of Anjou Cabernets in large distribution retailers increased to 60 540 hectolitres (+10 % in relation to last summer) for a value of 25.8 million euros (+9 %). Nearly 50% of these volumes were marketed under the distributor’s own brand name. Loire appellation Rosé wines have increased universally in volume (88 950 hectolitres, +13 %) and in value (36.5 million euros, +12 %). Anjou Rosés have also experienced marketing records: 15 340 hl (+ 30 %) for 5.6 million euros (+37 %).
