The top 20 French wines and spirits markets

During the first half of 2012, the 20 major importers of French wines and spirits accounted for 90% of their shipments, with 4.5 billion euros (+14% compared to the first half of 2011). In Europe, the major markets are UK, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Spain and Denmark. They account for 2 billion euros of wines and spirits shipment (+11.4%). Main driver of export growth, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea represent 1.3 billion shipments (21%). The United States and Canada accounted for 1 billion euros (+9%). Other countries in this ranking are Russia, the United Arab Emirates and Australia, representing € 0.2 billion (+32%).

More generally, "Export, French wines resume their market share significantly, reaching levels before the crisis" for the Frenh Federation of Wines and Spirits Exporters (FEVS). During the first seven months of 2012, French companies shipped 6 billion euros of wines and spirits (+14.7% compared to the first seven months of 2011). In volume, shipments of wines and spirits rose by 3% in the first half of 2012.
