rance’s third biggest vineyard in number of appellations, and first in terms of on-trade sales, the Loire Valley sells on average 13 bottles of wine every second throughout the world.

With 69 appellations across its territory, the Loire Valley vineyard is France’s third largest in number of appellations, but it is also :

· The biggest producer of white wines
· France’s leading AOC region outside of Champagne for sparkling wines

The Loire Valley has:
· 70,000 hectares, of which 52,000 produces quality wines, spread over 14 départements,
· 4,000,000 hectolitres of wine, 3,000,000 of which are high quality
· 69 appellations.

In addition it has:
· 7000 winemaking estates
· 100 wine merchants, with 15 companies producing 70% of overall turnover
· 24 winegrowers’ co-operatives
· Number 1 in sales to the catering industry
· 3rd largest in retail distribution
· The wines from the region have a turnover of 1.2 billion Euros, including 220 million Euros from exports
· 13 bottles sold every second
· 70 million bottles are exported, of which 33% goes to the UK and another 20% goes to Belgium.
