ccording to a study from ISWR, the amount of French wine imported into the United States has been greatly reduced thanks to the economic crisis, giving way to greater import of Australian wines.

Apart from Spanish imports, which have retained their relatively marginal presence, the older European suppliers to the American market (France and Italy) have both seen a drop in their relative presence in the market, and she situation shows little sign of improving. Italy has limited the damage, and stays in first place in terms of volume, just ahead of Australia. That being said, this damage limitation has costed the Italians dearly, as they’ve had to accept lower profit margins in order to maintain overall growth in terms of volume sold, in a market which is, despite all this, still growing.
