Belvedere: the sale of Marie Brizard does not concern the Moncigale wine brand
T

he French spirit group Belvedere was placed under recovery proceedings in July 2008; its rescue plan, approved in November 2009, included the transfer of many assets in order to restructure its debt, then assessed at almost 580 million euros. The group announced that it was in "exclusive negotiations" with the Compagnie Financière Européenne de Prise de Participation (Cofepp), specialists in spirit production, in order to sell the majority of the Marie Brizard subsidiary for 185 million euros. An agreement could be signed "before the end of July".
These discussions do not concern Moncigale, formerly Chais Beaucairois, Marie Brizard’s wine brand.
The Belvedere group registered unprecedented losses of 178 million euros in 2009.
