The organic trade show Millésime Bio 2021 opened its virtual doors on Wednesday 27 January, and will reopen them on March 18 and 19 to meet demand from its exhibitors. The first major trade show in the wine industry to go 100% digital was attended by 1,004 exhibitors and 3,000 visitors over three days, with an average of 1,100 visitors per day. “We cannot claim to have attracted 6 to 7,000 visitors as we do with our ‘bricks and mortar’ exhibition”, admitted Jeanne Fabre, chair of the Millésime Bio committee at the Sudvinbio marketing board. But as the results came in, the need to establish contacts in the midst of the Covid crisis was patent.

Over the exhibition’s three-day period, the platform registered 15,000 link-ups, with 5,000 appointments made and 10,000 conversations started via chat messages and video conference calls. The influx of photos and videos was such that the virtual platform struggled to cope and became inaccessible for an hour on the morning of Monday 25 January. “We would have liked to avoid the problem”, commented Fabre, explaining though that this was the launch of a “gigantic exhibition”.

Following requests from exhibitors to extend the event, the digital show will reopen on 18 and 19 March. “It may allow winegrowers who have yet to get on board and use the tool to have a second session, whilst enabling active users to continue prospecting”, explained Fabre.
