According to a study conducted by research firm Xerfi, French online wine sales are expected to slow over the next few years. Xerfi predicts that the increase in value will be “only 6% per year on average by 2022, reaching 1.9 billion euros”. In 2018, sales amounted to €1.5 billion.

Slower growth

Between 2008 and 2015, record growth rates were recorded, averaging +30% per year. The explanations given for the change in pace are a lessening of the novelty effect, widespread use of similar sales models (boxes, private sales) and the lower number of new business start-ups. The sale of wine on the Internet is gradually running out of steam but remains promising, say the report’s authors.
