On October 17, the Best of Wine Tourism scheme singled out for distinction the best wine tourism destinations in the Bordeaux and Bergerac wine regions. Out of the 21 trophies awarded, the panel’s favourite pick was the 20-hectare Domaine de la Grave in the Entre-Deux-Mers appellation. For ten euros, holidaymakers in the summer season can catch the little train that tours the family-owned property and makes four stops. Each one offers a recreational workshop which can be either a tasting of four wines in the dark, recognising vineyard soils through touch alone, an aroma game or a treasure hunt. The experience is rounded off with a visit to the wine museum and cooperage situated in the estate’s charterhouse. The complete visit lasts 45 minutes.

Six gold medals

The Best of Wine Tourism awards, which were officially presented on October 17 at the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also included six gold medals. In the Architecture and Landscape category, Château La Dominique won a gold medal for work by architect Jean Nouvel. In the Art and Culture category, the gold medal went to Château Castera in the Médoc for its painting and sculpture exhibitions. Château Reignac in Entre-Deux-Mers was the recipient of a gold medal in the Discovery and Innovation category for its mascot, Reignyx, which is used for its press and pr activities aimed at the general public, mainly via social media. The gold medal for the Accommodation category went to Château Le Pape in Pessac-Léognan for the standard of its welcome and its lounge/library facilities whilst Château de la Dauphine in Fronsac was rewarded for promoting environmental good practice by developing an educational tour on biodynamics. The last category, wine tourism services, saw the gold medal go to Château Lamothe-Bergeron in the Médoc for its estate-based catering services pairing food and wine.
