Peugeot Invest and Château Guiraud announce that Matthieu Gufflet has become a majority shareholder in Financière Guiraud”, announced a press release issued by the 128-hectare Sauternes Grand Cru Classé property with 103 hectares under vine. The founder of the indirect purchasing group EPSA, Matthieu Gufflet develops the ‘Terres de Natures’ hotel brand which has seven establishments in the Paris region, the Alps and on the Cap Ferret peninsula. “We want to make Château Guiraud a benchmark for sustainable winegrowing and hotel management”, said Gufflet in a press release. His “ambition is to contribute to the revitalisation of the Sauternes region”.

Certified organic since 2011, the château was taken over in 2006 by a pool of shareholders led by Robert Peugeot (74.9%), CEO of Peugeot Invest, the namesake family's investment company, with Stephan Von Neipperg (Saint-Emilion Premiers Grands Crus Classés Châteaux Canon La Gaffelière and La Mondotte), Olivier Bernard (manager of Domaine Chevalier, the Graves Grand Cru Classé) and Xavier Planty, who has been working at the estate since 1982, as co-owners.

Leaving Château Guiraud after 39 years, Xavier Planty is selling his shares to Matthieu Gufflet. The other shareholders remain unchanged and announce that the organic winegrowing – and development of permaculture – and wine tourism strategies will continue. La Chapelle Guiraud, the restaurant launched at the beginning of 2018, mirrors their wine tourism policy.
