Spain is market leader for bulk wine

or 2009, the ranking for sales of wine in bulk (by value) looks something like this :

Italy : 311 million euros
Spain : 297 million euros
France : 272 million euros
Australia : 160 million euros
Chile : 139 million euros
United States : 133 million euros
South Africa : 132 million euros

Second by value, Spain is number one by volume. The director general of Spain's Wine Market Observatory OEMV, Rafael del Rey, announced at the first ever bulk wine trade show, held in Amsterdam on 9th and 10th November this year, that Spain sold 1.3 million hectolitres of wine in one year. This modest figure was somewhat surprising : the volume sold must be greater since in the first eight months of 2009, according to the OEMV combined sales of table wine and AOC wine represented around 170 million euros for close to 5 million hectolitres. In 2008, sales of wine in bulk (table wine and AOC wine) represented 55% of Spanish exports by volume and 20% by value, with 9 million hectolitres for 350 million euros.
