For this second e-letter, we wish to present our vision of the 2005 vintage. We wish you an interesting visit and look forward to seeing you soon.

The Vidal-Dumoulin family

Until the month of September the 2005 vintage was characterised by a relatively low level of rainfall. Summer temperatures were close to the average and the coolness index in August was highly favourable (15.8°C). After the first harvest of the Roussanne grapes, storms broke out. Without affecting sanitary conditions they helped the berries towards a balanced phenolic maturity .

Rosé
Cinsault offer us well rounded wines that are fleshy and which retain a high degree of freshness.

Whites

We harvest the Roussanne on 2 occasions: the first harvest is to capture the early freshness; the second gives us a richer, more concentrated wine. As for the previous vintages, the Grenache is looking fresh and elegant. In another style, the Clairette is delicate, with notes of honey. The very Languedoc style Terret grape continues to surprise us with its complex, refined character .

Reds

In 2005 all the varieties offer very characteristic qualities:
Grenache: a capricious variety but which has shown its better side this year: sustained colour, beautiful concentration.
Syrah: regular, an excellent base material, full of elegance.
Carignan: our oldest variety but what youthful spirit: excellent concentration and great character.
Mourvèdre: has adapted beautifully to our soils but requires a great deal of attention. Our 2005 harvest is powerful and racy .

As usual each parcel has been vinified separately. We took extra special care to separate free run and pressed juices. This level of attention is part of our drive to seek ways of making ever purer wines.

The quality of this vintage is not only related to the climatic conditions, it is also the result of a year's work in the vineyard: bud removal, leaf clearing, preventive harvests… have all become regular practices.

Our wines are also the fruit of attention paid to cultivation methods: no use of chemical weed killers, to the preference of manual work, reasoned use of plant treatment products… Our wines are evolving towards ever greater purity.
